About the Brand
Micil Distillery is named in honour of Micil Mac Chearra, who began distilling poitín in 1848 on a Connemara hillside. For six generations and over 170 years, the family has preserved this craft, producing extraordinary spirits using traditional recipes, knowledge, and time-honoured techniques.
In 2020, Micil commenced whiskey production, laying down Galway’s first legal spirit in over a century. While their own whiskey matures, the distillery has released a range of Micil Whiskeys using sourced spirit, independently finished and bottled, inspired by historic Galway “fuisce” traditions.
These releases reflect the emerging style of “Galway Whiskey” being revived at Micil — a small preview of what is still to come.
