About the Department of Agriculture Food & Marine
The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine is the Competent Authority in Ireland for the purposes of Regulation 110/2008 on the definition, description, presentation, labelling and the protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks and it is under this Regulation that Irish Whiskey, Irish Cream and Irish Poitin are specifically afforded their Geographic Indication status. We work to protect the reputation of the three Irish GIs and also to assist in the future development of the industry.
We are here to offer information on the regulatory regime in place for Irish Whiskey and the verification process and controls we have in place to ensure that the high standards associated with Irish Whiskey are maintained.
